Six Degrees of Dodgeball

After months of messaging on MySpace with captain Chris, I finally had the pleasure of playing the L.A. Dodgers of Toronto a few times now, in my local league and at a tournament yesterday.

They made this awesome video on YouTube that has a great soundtrack and is chock full of fantastic videography and selective dodgeball action which showcases this team’s spirit and sincere love for the game. This is a real stand up team of friendly folks and great players.

As a supporter of the gay/LGBT community at large, I was pleasantly surprised to see a comment on my recent fall dodgeball league post about an all new gay/gay-friendly dodgeball league in New York City: “Big Apple Dodgeball”.

Whether you plan on playing in the inaugural season or not, all are welcome to the launch party this Thursday October 11 at SPLASH on 50 W 17 St. Oh yeah, and it’s 2 for 1 drinks. Sweet.

Tucson Dodgeball is proud to host the 2nd Annual Coed Naked Dodgeball Tournament at Bladeworld Sunday, September 23rd beginning at 3pm!! (Although they do point out the naked part is just a joke)

Team Entry fee is $120.00 with a six player minimum. Grand prize for first place team is $600.00. Ages 18 and up.

Wow, this feels like a real blog now, complete with Hollywood gossip.Yes folks, Dodgeball movie star Justin Long (also known as “the Mac guy” on Apple commercials) was seen making out with Drew Barrymore (E.T., The Wedding Singer) last weekend at Jet Nightclub in Las Vegas.

Doesn’t that totally look like a camera phone picture? I grabbed this image from this Web site called fametastic (British, of course), where I learned the news.

It’s been awhile since I posted so I thought I would gather up all the fall dodgeball league information I could find and crank it all into one post, so here goes. If you have a league you would like to promote, please post a comment!

Carson City, Nevada – This league spawned from a group of teens playing dodgeball behind an empty Kmart until they got chased out by the police. After that, a tennis court, where upwards of 60 youth showed up on any given night. Now thanks to Joel Dunn, sports manager for Carson City Recreation Division, the games are now held at The Pony Express Pavilion. Friday nights, 8-11. For more information, call Dunn at 887-2290, Ext. 104.

Nebraska – Deadline to register is this Saturday September 8. Complete information about a Columbus league is at www.ColumbusEventCenter.com/dodgeball.php. Registrations need to be phoned in to 562-5663 and/or received by this Saturday to be included in the league.

Dallas, Texas – Average Joes can get their game face on when they join the Dallas Dodgeball league from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday. All you need is good sportsmanship, athletic wear and $5 to participate in games the first and third Saturdays of each month. Head to Dunford Community Center, 1015 Green Canyon Drive, Mesquite. Toronto, Canada (my home town) – It’s not too late to register with the Toronto Central Sport and Social Club for dodgeball on Sunday, Tuesday or Thursday nights. Space is extremely limited! I personally will be playing Sunday nights on my regular team, and Monday nights on a new team I am excited to join.

Toronto, Canada – Toronto Dodgeball. There is going to be a free dodgeball session Sunday September 30th from 12:00 to 2:30pm at Windfields JHS (Yorkmills and Leslier area, 375 Banbury rd). Players and friends are welcome. This league is finalizing its weekday permit with the city and either a Wednesday or Thursday evening league should be finalized shortly. Register in the meantime. The season is set to start Sunday October 14th.

This is a little outdated now, from 2006, but as the days of summer slowly start to simmer down up here in Canada, I thought I’d post a little skin. Turns out some adult webmaster community folks at The Phoenix Forum had a dodgeball tournament last year. You can view more photos here.

Now this is a dodgeball team of dedication: Tucson Dodgeball. I have been emailing a bit back and forth with the manager Steve, and I just wanted to give them some props for a Web site well done.

It is chock full of information about the team, plus some awesome videos and photos of their regular games, tournaments, and a trip to the big tournament in Las Vegas.
