My favourite dodgeball tournament of the year in Toronto is on again: The Motrin IB my Game my Pain Canadian Beach Dodgeball Championship Series 2008. (Yes it’s a mouthfull, but yes, that’s what corporate sponsorship means, doesn’t it?)

- Up to $5000 cash purse. Top 8 teams are ‘in the money’.
- Refereed games
- Indoor sand courts and onsite bar, catered food available.

And the best new part about it:

- playoff format for 2008: The single elimination playoff format will be adjusted to make the playoffs more fun for everyone. Top teams will advance to competitive bracket to compete for cash prizes and the remaining teams will advance into the consolation bracket to compete for other great tournament prizes!

Hosted by my league, the Toronto Sport & Social Club, this tourney is like nothing you’ve ever seen! You get to play in the sand, which means extra cardio, and thrilling dives. And yes, sand in places where the sun don’t shine.

My one tip: bring flip-flops. Trust me, you’ll thank me later.

This is a great event folks. If you’re into dodgeball, or are even just curious to come out and watch, it’s always a super fun time.

I also noticed there will be a Calgary tourney June 7 and Ottawa June 14, so spread the word!

They are holding a tournament coming up this weekend, Saturday March 8, 2008.

Registration is also opening soon for the spring season, kicking off April 14.

The site also features some YouTube video clips of one of their dodgeball games, and other sports as well including 3-on-3 basketball.

They are offering two different tournaments: recreational and intermediate levels. The cost is $225 per team.

I went to the last one a few weeks ago, and I thought it was one of the most fun dodgeball tournaments they’ve had yet – except for the annual indoor beach tourney. That’s the highlight of the year!

Carson City, Nevada – This league spawned from a group of teens playing dodgeball behind an empty Kmart until they got chased out by the police. After that, a tennis court, where upwards of 60 youth showed up on any given night. Now thanks to Joel Dunn, sports manager for Carson City Recreation Division, the games are now held at The Pony Express Pavilion. Friday nights, 8-11. Nebraska – Deadline to register is this Saturday September 8. Complete information about a Columbus league is at www.ColumbusEventCenter.com/dodgeball.php. Registrations need to be phoned in to 562-5663 and/or received by this Saturday to be included in the league.

Dallas, Texas – Average Joes can get their game face on when they join the Dallas Dodgeball league from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday. All you need is good sportsmanship, athletic wear and $5 to participate in games the first and third Saturdays of each month. Head to Dunford Community Center, 1015 Green Canyon Drive, Mesquite. Toronto, Canada (my home town) – It’s not too late to register with the Toronto Central Sport and Social Club for dodgeball on Sunday, Tuesday or Thursday nights. Space is extremely limited! I personally will be playing Sunday nights on my regular team, and Monday nights on a new team I am excited to join.

Toronto, Canada – Toronto Dodgeball. There is going to be a free dodgeball session Sunday September 30th from 12:00 to 2:30pm at Windfields JHS (Yorkmills and Leslier area, 375 Banbury rd). Players and friends are welcome. This league is finalizing its weekday permit with the city and either a Wednesday or Thursday evening league should be finalized shortly. Register in the meantime. The season is set to start Sunday October 14th.

My dodgeball league, Toronto Sport and Social Club, is holding another beach dodgeball tournament. But this time, it’s going to be held outdoors. Hopefully it won’t rain.The Motrin “My Pain My Game” Outdoor Canadian Beach Dodgeball Championships gives your team the chance to win up to $5,000 on Saturday July 21 at The Docks, a popular entertainment complex off Cherry Street south Lakeshore Blvd East. It’s easily accessible by the highways.

So far only three teams are registered, but if it’s anything like previous events, the event should be an action-packed success.

There will be an on-site bar and restaurant, plus free parking (often unheard of downtown!).

This is the third beach dodgeball tournament held. The first ones were held in the spring of 2006 and 2007 in an indoor beach volleyball complex in north Toronto.
